Our Work

Partnership staff and partners manage regional, multi-year programs composed of many dedicated projects. These programs serve to protect, restore, and enhance the San Francisco  Estuary ecosystem. Projects under these programs often provide multiple benefits to the Estuary and its communities by advancing long-term goals outlined in the Estuary Blueprint

Climate Resilience Programs

The San Francisco Estuary faces increasingly complex ecological challenges as climate change affects every facet of the estuarine system. Climate change brings more extreme heat events, more frequent droughts, rising sea levels, and other challenges that stress socioecological systems. The Estuary Partnership advances climate resilience at the regional and local level using nature-based solutions, also known as ‘NBS’. NBS leverages natural and nature-based processes to bring multiple benefits to water, land, and people.  Learn more.

Regional Capacity Building Programs

The San Francisco Estuary Partnership believes that the health of the Estuary and its communities are inextricably linked. We commit to working hand-in-hand with community partners and across local, state, federal, and non-profit partners to contribute to and implement this strategy.

Our Regional Capacity Building Programs build relationships, pass through funding, and support others to meet the moment of climate change with us in the San Francisco Estuary. No one can do this work alone, so we convene collaborators and leverage our resources to support others in this work. Learn more.

State of the Estuary Conference

Every two years, the Estuary Partnership brings a focus to the management and ecological health of the San Francisco Estuary. The State of the San Francisco Estuary Conference showcases the latest information about the region’s work to sustain and improve the estuary’s habitats, living resources, water quality, climate resilience, and environmental stewardship. State of the Estuary Report

State of the Estuary Status and Trends Cover

The State of the Estuary Report is the most comprehensive health report ever completed for the San Francisco Estuary. It uses the best available science and the most recent data contributed by over 30 scientists to assess the status of various parts of the ecosystem. The purpose is to identify problems with estuarine health, so that conservation and restoration efforts can focus on solutions. Learn more.
